Description:
A sequence of visuals and labels of activities to be used for calming strategies for an individual. The sequence goes from at desk activities to moving around the class and then to outside. The sequence attempts to enable students to calm themselves from frustration or anger with this visual sequence of activities. This sequence uses less intusive prompting than using direct instruction or adult facilitated actions. Steps toward independence: 1. Simply demonstrate the activities in order 2. fade modeling in time 3. use non-verbal gestures to prompt 4. Praise independent usage How to use: Always start with count to 10 and move down the sequence until calming strategies work successfully. Insist on completing all of the activity, for example if it says 'count to 10" - count to 10, not less, and repeat if needed. For example if it says "10 jumping jack" do 10 but not less, and repeat step if individual requires more to calm themselves. Model calmness and Have Fun!
